Everything goes so fast nowadays, and we often neglect to follow-up on things. After a sustained effort to deliver a project on time, even if a waiting period is expected afterwards, once an urgent translation has been turned in or a text has been revised on time for its broadcast, it is good to follow-up to confirm that you received the work, that the results were as expected, or simply to plan any future projects in the weeks and months to come.
A short confirmation of receipt by e-mail is enough to close the project and confirm that everything is complete.
A short message to say hello and to discuss upcoming projects, deadlines and the production calendar will reflect positively on both VA and client.
A note to say that there are no immediate projects planned for the next weeks will let your clients and your VA open up time for other priorities until your shared projects start up again.
Too often, the exchange consists in a request, a fast and efficient return and then… no more news until the next request that can arise at any time. I like to call this the “Jack in the box” effect. This is not always a bad thing, especially when we appreciate our clients and they are are happy to hear from their VA, but what we’re aiming at is a regular collaboration and a sustained relationship.
Let’s make a habit of following up, planning and optimizing our time by staying in touch. The relationship can only benefit from this!
